Coral reef biology in a changing environment. Ecological and physiological responses of subtropical and tropical marine communities to environmental stress. Understanding symbiosis of cnidarians with their associated endosymbiotic algae, endolithic and epilithic communities and the way this symbiosis changes under elevated seawater temperature, increased radiation and decreased pH. How will coral reef ecosystems change following a shift in the environmental conditions in which they developed as projected by climate change trajectories? How interactions between acute and chronic disturbances influence the integrity of our planet's richest marine environment?

A coral Reef Refuge in the Red Sea

Coral reefs around the world are rapidly deteriorating due to human induced warming, acidification, and pollution of the seas. As such  corals in the GoA have the potential to survive predicted climate changes and act as a refuge. We believe this resilience results from the unique oceanographic history of the Red Sea  and further research is underway to fully understand this phenomenon.

Our Lab uses the Red Sea Simulator to study the response of Reef organisms to environmental change such as Ocean Acidification, Thermal stress and nutrients enrichment. all this in a flow-through seawater system.

Vermetid reefs in the eastern Mediterranean Sea

Our lab studies the ecology of the reef building snail Dendropoma and the reasons for its extinction along the Mediterranean coast of Israel.

We study the general biology of this facinating organism including its feeding.
